One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the 91 Freeway in Corona on Friday night, March 5, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 8:04 p.m. in the eastbound lanes east of Sixth Street. One truck was reported on fire.

Jose Avalos Sanchez, a 51-year-old Moreno Valley resident, was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m., the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said. It was unclear in which vehicle Sanchez died.

Images from the scene showed a conscious man being cut out of a sedan and placed in an ambulance.

Three lanes were closed as late as 10:04 p.m.

The CHP on Saturday said it did not have information on how many people were injured.

There were two crashes in that area, the CHP said: a hit-and-run involving five cars and the fatal collision involving four.

It was not clear on Saturday if the two incidents were related.
