A Colton woman, 26, died in a solo vehicle crash on Sunday morning on the 215 Freeway near March Air Reserve Base, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 7:27 a.m., the CHP responded to a call of a solo crash on the southbound 215 Freeway’s off-ramp at Van Buren Boulevard in the area of the base and Moreno Valley. When units arrived, they found the lone occupant, the driver, unresponsive, the CHP said.
The driver’s 2004 Infinity Q35 sustained extensive damage and access to the driver could not be obtained, the CHP reported. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire personnel arrived and pronounced the driver deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the Infinity was traveling southbound on the Van Buren Boulevard off-ramp at an undetermined speed. As the Infinity approached the top of the off-ramp, it appeared the vehicle made no attempt to slow down for the right-hand turn, according to the CHP.
The Infinity struck a traffic signal pole and it is suspected the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, according to the CHP. Alcohol and or drugs have not been ruled out as a factor, the CHP reported.
The identity of the woman who died was not immediately made public.
