A driver was being sought after fatally striking a pedestrian traveling through a crosswalk in Montclair and fleeing on Monday evening, Feb.1, the Montclair Police Department reported.
Personnel from both the Montclair police and fire departments responded to a collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian in the intersection of Ramona Avenue and Holt Boulevard at about 7:35 p.m. The 55-year-old pedestrian was transported to a trauma center and later succumbed to his injuries, Police said.
The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
The SUV fled the scene before first responders got there, police said.
An investigation revealed the SUV was traveling east on Holt Boulevard and entered the intersection of Ramona Avenue when the pedestrian failed to yield the right-of-way to the SUV and was struck in the crosswalk, Police reported.
