Big Bear man arrested after fatal hit-and-run

A Big Bear City driver was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene where his vehicle collided with three pedestrians, resulting in the death of an Ontario woman, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

On Sunday, Jan. 31, a 2004 Toyota Highlander was traveling westbound on Barton Lane east of Holmes Lane in the Big Bear area at an unknown speed at about 6:01 p.m. The Toyota collided with three pedestrians who were walking westbound on Barton Lane, according to CHP.

The victims included a 30-year-old woman from Ontario, a 22-year-old man from Henderson, Nevada, and a 29-year-old man from Long Beach. The Ontario woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene and the other two victims sustained minor injuries, CHP said.

The driver of the Toyota fled the scene but was arrested later that night, according to CHP. Identifying information on the driver of the Toyota and booking information for him was not immediately available. Officials did not immediately identify the woman who died.

The circumstances are still being investigated and any witnesses to the traffic collision or events prior to the collision were asked to contact the Arrowhead Area CHP office at 909-867-2791.
