A Banning woman has been arrested and charged with murder, more than a year after authorities say she drove away from a collision with a skateboarder, leaving him to die in the street.

Lilliana Ruvalcaba Diaz, 29, was being held at Larry D. Smith Correction Facility in Banning in lieu of $1 million bail after her arrest Friday, Jan. 22.

Diaz also has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit and run causing injury or death. No court date has been set. Superior Court records do not list an attorney for her.

Leron Sanders, 20, had been riding his skateboard on the south edge of Ramsey Street near Apex Street in Banning at about 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2019, when he was struck by a silver car that police say had partially veered off the road.

As the car sped away, leaving parts and debris behind, Sanders died, police said.

Detectives later found the car and identified the driver as Diaz, a news release issued Saturday said.
