A Colton man was killed in a crash in San Bernardino, the San Bernardino Police Department reported.

29-year-old Yanotan Casas was identified as the victim of the crash, police said in a Monday statement.

On Friday, Jan. 8, at about 10 p.m., a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound in the 1400 block of East Highland Avenue at a high rate of speed, the Police Department said. The Honda drifted into the westbound lanes of traffic, traveled over the northeast curb at Highland Avenue and Mountain Avenue and struck a metal pole in a parking lot.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene to provide medical aid. Casas was suffering from critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for medical attention, however, he succumbed to his injuries.

It appears speed and drugs were factors in the collision, the Police Department said.

Anyone with additional information was asked to contact Detective Dan Acosta 909-384-5792.
