The driver of a car that struck and fatally injured a bicyclist in Perris on Friday, July 17, apparently fled the seen of the crash and was sought by deputies, officials said Saturday.
Authorities were notified of the crash near the intersection of Goetz Road and Ellis Avenue at about 11:16 p.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a news release. Deputies responded and encountered a seriously injured man who died at the scene of the collision.
The motorist involved in the crash fled before authorities arrived, Sheriff’s officials said. The vehicle was described as either a white or light-colored sedan with a shattered front windshield and major front-end damage.
The bicyclist who died was identified as Steve Baxter, 64, of Perris, Riverside County Coroner’s officials said in a news release. Investigators were working to learn the identity of the driver of the car that struck him. Authorities asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call deputies at 951-210-1068.
