Two people in a pickup truck were killed in Perris when they crashed with an SUV whose driver fled and was later caught by sheriff’s deputies, the department said Tuesday, July 13.

The collision, between a Chevy Blazer and a Ford F-150 pickup truck at Harley Knox Boulevard and Patterson Avenue, just east of Interstate 215, was reported at 11:44 a.m. Monday.

The driver of the Blazer fled but was found nearby.

“(The) preliminary investigation suggests the driver of the Chevy Blazer was driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance at the time of this collision,” the Sheriff’s Department said.

The driver was expected to be arrested for driving under the influence and homicide after receiving medical clearance, the department said.
