A man died in Rialto early Monday after a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Merrill and Yucca avenues.
Rialto police said the crash happened just before 1:45 a.m. Officers responded to the area and found a man dead on the ground outside of a damaged black Honda Civic.
The man was the only one in the car, police said. He was identified as Steven Cardona, 26, of Rialto.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed that Cardona was driving west on Merrill Avenue at high speeds. As he crossed through an intersection at Cactus Avenue, he lost control of the car and hit a curb.
“The Honda Civic continued across the sidewalk, where it hit two trees and a wall, ejecting Cardona from his (car),” police said in a statement.
Police said alcohol appears to have played a factor in the crash.
