A 24-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon in Fontana after his SUV swerved off a road and rolled over several times, authorities said.
About 4 p.m., Fontana police officers were called to the area of Mulberry Avenue and Jurupa Avenue, where they found a wrecked, white GMC Yukon lying on its side, said Officer Kevin Anderson, spokesman for Fontana police.
Near the Yukon, officers also found the body of the driver, identified by police only as a 24-year-old male, a resident of Fontana, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Investigators believe the man had been driving in the area with a flat tire, which had been rubbed down to the rim, Anderson said. At some point, the driver swerved off the road, went up over a curb onto a sidewalk, and then rolled over several times. As it tumbled, police believe the man was ejected from his seat.
Anderson said investigators found alcohol in the vehicle and suspect intoxication may have been a factor in the crash.
