Prosecutors formally charged a man suspected of speeding through a red light in Racho Cucamonga and causing a crash in November that left one woman dead with gross vehicular manslaughter on Tuesday, and he was arrested Thursday, June 25.

Deputies took Oscar Villa, 25, of Rancho Cucamonga, into custody and booked him into the West Valley Detention Center, where he was held in lieu of $250,000 bail, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department officials said in a news release.

Prosecutors say he initiated a collision Nov. 15 that killed Jade Abrantes, 21, of Rancho Cucamonga.

Investigators believe Villa was traveling east and over the speed limit on Terra Vista Parkway at about 7:15 a.m. near Mountain View Drive. Abrantes was headed south toward the intersection as a passenger in a Honda Sedan, while another vehicle that was also involved in the crash approached from the opposite direction on Mountain View.

The suspect allegedly blew through a red light and slammed into the sedan Abrantes was riding in. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The third motorist involved in the collision was not injured.
