A crash involving two sedans in Rancho Cucamonga resulted in a fire that left one person dead early Sunday, June 7.

A 2016 Kia that was traveling west on Base Line collided at an intersection with a 1996 Lexus headed north on Haven Avenue, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a news release. The Kia caught fire with a motorist inside. That person was found dead inside of the scorched vehicle after firefighters managed to extinguish the car fire.

The driver of the Lexus was taken to a nearby hospital, Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said. He was identified as Shea Pinney, 35, of Rancho Cucamonga in the department’s release. Details regarding the severity of his injuries were not immediately available.

“The cause of the collision is under investigation,” Miller said.
