A driver suspected of fatally hitting a man in a motorized wheelchair in Fontana, then fleeing the scene, later turned himself in Wednesday night.
Jonathan Rodriguez, 31, of Fontana was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, according to Fontana police spokesman Officer Kevin Anderson.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, who was only described as a 55-year-old San Bernardino man. He died at the scene, Anderson said.
Fontana police responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a car near Foothill Boulevard and Hemlock Avenue at 9:41 p.m.
Officers found a white 2001 Ford Taurus just down the street without its driver, Anderson said.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was riding his motorized wheelchair on Foothill Boulevard prior to the collision, Anderson said. The car was heading west on Foothill Boulevard.
The suspect later showed up at the police station to turn himself in.
