1 dead, 1 arrested after crash on 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga

A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter after a crash on the 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga left a driver dead, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. on the freeway between Haven Avenue and Milliken Avenue, according to Jesus Garcia, spokesman for the CHP.

Garcia said a 62-year-old man in a Saturn sedan was driving east on the freeway at an unknown speed when a man driving at a high-rate of speed in a Kia Optima crashed into the back of his car.

“Both vehicles sustained major damage and were located on the right shoulder of the freeway,” officials said.

The driver of the Saturn was identified as Robert Beltran, of Rancho Cucamonga, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel, officials said.

Froebel Fernando Amador, 38, of Rancho Cucamonga was not injured and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter. Amador was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with a bail of $250,000.

The crash remained under investigation.
