Motorcyclist dies in crash on 215 Freeway in Perris

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning in a crash with a vehicle on southbound Interstate 215 in Perris and a stretch of the southbound lanes of the freeway was closed for the investigation.

Officers responded to the accident scene near Harley Knox Boulevard about 1:40 a.m. and found the rider down in the No. 1 lane and debris across the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. No other injuries were reported.

Officials said the motorcyclist was driving at an unknown speed and lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons. He was tossed from his motorcycle and was hit by a passing motorist.

The motorcyclist was identified by coroner officials as Frank Jones, 58, of Menifee.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
