A 13-year-old boy died and eight people were injured including a 4-month-old baby in a multiple-car crash on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park on Sunday.
The coroner’s office had not yet released the name of the Los Angeles boy who was killed.
The collision, west of Francisquito Avenue, shut down eastbound lanes of the 10 freeway for more than four hours. No one had been arrested or cited.
At 1:42 p.m., a flatbed tow truck rear-ended a white Toyota Corolla and struck a Nissan Murano in an adjacent lane, said Rodrigo Jimenez, an officer and spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
That set off a chain-reaction that involved another half-dozen or so vehicles.
A 13-year-old boy riding in the Nissan died, Jimenez said. The 39-year-old woman driver and another passenger, a 2-year-old girl, suffered major injuries. A 14-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman suffered moderate injuries. All were from Los Angeles.
A 29-year-old La Puente woman driving another car suffered a major injury.
In another car, the four-month-old boy suffered blunt-force trauma, a 50-year-old woman had bruising and the 34-year-old driver had cuts. They were from Walnut.
The 32-year-old Pomona man driving the tow truck wasn’t hurt.
