A pedestrian crossing a San Jacinto street before dawn Wednesday, May 6, was struck by a car and died, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

The collision happened about 4:20 a.m. on De Anza Drive west of Main Street. A Hyundai Elantra was headed south on De Anza when it hit the pedestrian “walking in the middle of the roadway,” a news release said.

The driver stopped and called 911, and deputies arrived to find the pedestrian lying in the street. The pedestrian died at the scene, the release said.

Coroner’s officials identified the pedestrian who died as Holly Rood, 25, whose city of residence was not known.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the collision to call 951-654-2702.
