Motorcyclist dead after crash in Riverside

A Tuesday afternoon crash at an intersection in Riverside’s Canyon Crest neighborhood left a 20-year-old motorcyclist dead, authorities said.

Trenton Mersola of Riverside died in the crash, at Central Avenue and El Cerrito Drive, between his 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2009 Toyota Rav-4.

Officer Ryan Railsback, a Riverside Police Department spokesman, said the crash happened around 4:10 p.m.

Mersola apparently failed to stop for a red light while riding westbound on Central and into the El Cerrito intersection as the Rav-4 driver was turning left on a green arrow, police said.

The Rav-4 driver, a 22-year-old Riverside woman, was not injured, police said.

The initial investigation showed that neither drugs or alcohol factored into the collision, police said. The crash remained under investigation.
