Single-vehicle crash in Riverside/Jurupa Valley area leaves Perris man dead

A Perris man died Sunday, April 26, in a solo-vehicle crash in the Riverside/Jurupa Valley area.

Juan Quintero, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol in Riverside, said the crash happened at around 4:40 p.m. A black Toyota Avalon was heading west on the 60 Freeway, just east of Hall Avenue at around 65 to 70 miles per hour.

“For an unknown reason, the Toyota drifted to the right and off the roadway,” Quintero said. “As a result, the front of the Toyota collided into a large tree.”

Two lanes of the freeway were temporarily closed for the emergency response and investigation in the area near the Riverside/Jurupa Valley border.

Quintero said the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department pronounced the male driver dead at the scene.

The man was identified Monday by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as Frank Torres, 43, of Perris. The Coroner’s Office said the crash location was in Jurupa Valley.

No other injuries were reported.

Cal Fire sent two engines and one truck to the scene.
