A 35-year-old Moreno Valley man was re-arrested Wednesday, April 22, in connection with a traffic collision in September 2019 that killed a 72-year-old pedestrian in that city, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
Roben Gaby Noujaim was initially arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after the 7:45 p.m. crash Sept. 10 at the intersection of Graham Street and Old Valley Road. Lorenzo Romero of Moreno Valley was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Department investigated the collision and submitted its report to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, which recommended charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, inflicting great bodily injury in the commission of a felony and driving under the influence of drugs while causing injury.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Noujaim, who was taken into custody just after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Moreno Valley sheriff’s station, the county jail log says. Noujaim was being held at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside in lieu of $1 million bail.
