A man died Tuesday, Feb. 25, after a pursuit ended in a fiery crash in Upland.

Upland police officers attempted to stop the driver of a white BMW sedan, but it took off at a high rate of speed, Sgt. Moe Duran said. The driver lost control near San Antonio Avenue and 24th Street, where the car struck a power pole and caught fire.

The man was unconscious and first responders attempted life saving measures, Duran said, but he died as a result of his injuries.

The reason police attempted to pull over his vehicle was not immediately known.

Police asked residents to stay away from the area as they conducted an investigation. The man’s identity was not immediately released.
