Rialto man dies in San Bernardino crash

A Rialto man died early Sunday, Feb. 23, in San Bernardino when the car he was driving veered into a pole at the side of Rialto Avenue, and police say speed appeared to be a contributing factor.

A man identified by the San Bernadino County coroner as Randy Palo Rich, 53, was driving a Nissan Quest eastbound on Rialto Avenue, west of Rancho Avenue, a few minutes before 3 a.m. Sunday, police said in a statement.

Rich was the only person in the car, when for unknown reasons it went out of control and struck the pole in the 2000 block of West Rialto Avenue. Rich, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

The crash remained under investigation Monday, police said. While speed appeared to be an element of the crash, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor, police said. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved.
