Using spray cans and a steady hand, renowned Los Angeles artist Jonas Never, 38, has created life-like murals of Lakers great Kobe Bryant near Staples Center, Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs in Santa Monica, and about 250 other sports figures around the country.

Never is currently creating a 19-by-24-foot mural at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, his first in the Inland Empire, of retiring NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. The mural, on the wall of the APEX building in the heart of the Fan Zone at the Speedway, depicts Johnson’s career highlights at the Fontana track.

The mural is scheduled for completion next weekend in time for the NASCAR Auto Club 400 on March 1, which will be Johnson’s last race at the track. Johnson, from El Cajon, won his first career Cup race at the track in 2002 and has won a total of six times at the track, most recently in 2016. The 2002 and 2016 wins will be depicted in the mural.
