An Uber driver was arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman reported Sunday that she had hailed a ride to her Fontana home after a night of drinking with her friends, had fallen asleep or passed out in the car, and awoke to being attacked, police said.
The driver, Alonso Calle, 32, had contacted police and said he was the accused Uber driver, but claimed he had consensual sex with the woman at McDermott Park in Fontana.
Detectives interviewed Calle, then arrested him.
Calle said he anticipated the woman would tell police that she had been raped, the department said in a statement.
He claimed she got mad, “stated something about being raped and wanted out of his car.”
Calle left the area and later called the police. “Calle admitted the victim was very intoxicated but still offered him sex,” a department statement said. The woman reported the incident to police at 3:30 a.m.
Calle was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Ranch Cucamonga. His booking information was not immediately available Sunday afternoon, nor was his hometown.
