A motorist was killed late Friday, Jan. 10, in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver in Fontana, the Police Department said.

The collision happened a few minutes before midnight on Sierra Avenue near Baseline Avenue. A Mercedes-Benz C230 was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Sierra when it struck a southbound Nissan Rogue, Fontana police said.

The driver of the Nissan, identified Sunday by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office as George Estrada, 37, of Fontana, died at a hospital early Saturday morning.

The Mercedes driver, who was suspected of driving under the influence, was in critical condition Saturday, police said. He was not publicly identified.
