Authorities on Saturday evening released the identity of a man suspected of fleeing the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash in Aguanga one day earlier.
Antone Wayne Bayard, 23, of Anza is suspected of driving the 2011 Nissan that struck a 1986 Toyota pickup, sending it into opposing lanes of Highway 371 in Aguanga, colliding with a third vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said. The collision resulted in the death of Joan Terlisner, 63, of Aguanga, the driver of the third vehicle.
After the crash, authorities said Bayard was seen walking away from the scene south toward Highway 79
Since the Friday morning crash, investigators were able to track Bayard to a location in the Coachella Valley where he had been hiding from authorities, said CHP Officer Mike Lassig.
When two CHP officers went to confront the suspect, Lassig said the suspect got into an altercation with the pair, leaving them with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities believe Bayard is in the Temecula or San Diego area with plans to flee to Mexico.
The CHP said if any person has information on Bayard they can contact CHP Dispatch at 858-637-3800.
