MORENO VALLEY — A passenger killed in a rollover crash during heavy downpours in Moreno Valley on Thursday was a Yucaipa resident, authorities said Saturday.

Mary Lambright was 68, the Riverside County coroner’s office said.

The crash was reported about 12:30 p.m. on southbound Redlands Boulevard, north of Manzanita Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer R. Diaz said.

The 1998 BMW sedan driven by Matthew Wimberly, 39, of Yucaipa “lost control and went off the west road edge down an embankment,” Diaz said. “The vehicle came to rest on its roof.”

Heavy rain was moving through the area at the time.

Lambright, the front passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. Wimberly was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have been distracted prior to the collision,” Diaz said. “No alcohol or drugs are presumed and seatbelts were in use.”
