MORENO VALLEY — A man was killed Monday in a head-on collision just north of Moreno Valley that was triggered when a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatality happened about 12:20 p.m. on Redlands Boulevard, about a quarter-mile south of San Timoteo Canyon Road, the CHP reported.

According to the agency, a man driving northbound on Redlands veered into southbound traffic, slamming into a truck. Another vehicle was also involved, but no details were available.

Paramedics pronounced the man whose vehicle struck the truck dead at the scene. He was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau as David Rodriguez, 48, of Beaumont.

One person suffered minor injuries, but it was unclear whether the party was taken to a hospital.

The CHP shut down Redlands at the crash scene for over two hours to conduct a preliminary investigation and remove the vehicles.
