A single-vehicle crash in San Bernardino early Wednesday left two people dead.

The San Bernardino Police Department said the crash happened just after 4:45 a.m., when a Hyundai was heading east on Kendall Drive, approaching a curve that transitioned the roadway into E Street.

While driving east the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete pillar, causing the car to catch on fire, authorities said. Both the driver and passenger died at the scene of injuries sustained in the crash and fire.

“At this point in the investigation, it appears speed was a factor in the collision,” police said in a statement.

The names and ages of the driver and passenger will be released once next of kin are notified.
