Last Updated on September 30, 2019 by CCAR Staff

One person was killed early Monday afternoon after a crash between a car and a motorcycle on the Ortega Highway west of Lake Elsinore, authorities said.

The crash just before 1 p.m. was on a north-south stretch of the winding roadway, Highway 74, and  just south of the Lookout Roadhouse, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters said one person was dead at the scene. Authorities did not identify the person.

The highway also runs east and west, and it was closed to eastbound traffic about 8 miles east of the Orange/Riverside County line due to the crash, Caltrans said.

The agency advised motorists to find an alternate route for the duration of the investigation and clearance of the roadway.
