Fiery crash near San Jacinto claims driver’s life, causes brush fire

A fiery single-vehicle crash claimed the life of the driver and set a brush fire that was quickly contained early Sunday at the northern edge of San Jacinto, authorities said.

The vehicle struck a tree at the intersection of State Street and Soboba Road just after 1 a.m., Cal Fire-Riverside County and the California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver, the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene. The brush fire was contained by 1:45 p.m.

The Riverside County Coroner was called to the scene and coroner officials later identified the victim as Michael Vega, 46, of San Jacinto.
