Riverside man dies from injuries in Home Gardens car crash

An 18-year-old Riverside man who was in a car that struck a palm tree in Home Gardens late Friday night has died, the Riverside County Coroner’s office said Sunday.

Simon Loza was one of three people in the car that struck the tree in the 12000 block of Magnolia Avenue,  just west of Lincoln Street in the unincorporated community of Home Gardens at 11 p.m. Friday.

Two others in the crash suffered moderate injuries, and had to be freed from the car wreckage by Cal Fire-Riverside County firefighters.

Loza died at Riverside Community Hospital about 45 minutes after the crash, the coroner’s office said.

The names of the two others in the car were not released, and the driver was not immediately identified.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the cause of the crash.
