A Fontana man was killed early Saturday in a fiery, single-vehicle rollover crash on the northbound 215 Freeway in Perris.
Firefighters responded about 3 a.m. to the crash that occurred just north of the Highway 74 offramp and pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Officials said the crash happened when the 2005 Dodge Neon, which was being driven by a 24-year-old man, drifted onto the right shoulder and onto the dirt next to the 215 Freeway. It overturned, rolled and crashed into a chain link fence.
The vehicle came to a rest on its roof and caught fire with the victim trapped inside, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The name of the driver was not immediately released.
The CHP’s Temecula office is investigating what caused the crash.
