A 20-year-old man died Monday night in Riverside after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, police said.
Riverside Police Sgt. Erich Feimer said in a statement that police were alerted at 8:25 p.m. to the incident on Indiana Avenue east of Jackson Street.
A statement from the Riverside Police Department said the initial investigation showed that the man was crossing from the south side of Indiana Avenue to the north side when a vehicle traveling east hit him. The vehicle continued east on Indiana Avenue, and the driver didn’t stop to call police or administer aid.
“Witnesses described the vehicle as a newer model dark blue or black Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic,” the statement said.
The victim was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he died, Feimer said.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau identified the man as Marcos Figueroa, of Riverside. He was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.
No arrests in the case had been announced as of Tuesday afternoon.
