2 killed in head-on crash on Gilman Springs Road near San Jacinto

Two people died early Sunday and several were injured in a head-on crash on Gilman Springs west of Highway 79 near San Jacinto, authorities said.

Cal Fire-Riverside County firefighters were called to the scene for the crash reported at 5:30 a.m. The California Highway Patrol said.

The early CHP report said a van and another vehicle were involved.

Two people died at the scene, two suffered major injuries, and four others had what were described as minor to moderate injuries. The injured were taken to hospitals, Cal Fire Riverside County said in a tweet.

Identities of the two people who died were not available Sunday morning.

The CHP closed Gilman Springs Road at Highway 79 for its investigation, and re-opened it at 8:20 a.m.
