Motorist dies in Ramona Expressway early morning crash near San Jacinto

A motorist died early Monday on the Ramona Expressway near San Jacinto when a driver going the opposite direction crossed the road’s double yellow lines and crashed head-on into the victim’s car, authorities reported.

It was the second fatal crash in three days on the same stretch of the expressway near Bridge Street, between San Jacinto and Lakeview.

The identity of the driver of the eastbound white Chevrolet sedan who died was not available Monday afternoon. The driver of the westbound green Hyundai sedan that deputies said crossed the double yellow lines was hospitalized. Both cars involved had only the drivers on board.

The 4:35 a.m. crash occurred west of Warren Road, and closed the expressway between Bridge Street and Warren until 10:30 a.m., deputies said.

The investigation continued Monday;  anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call  the Sheriff’s San Jacinto Station, 951-654-2702.

Early Saturday, Danny Joya, 26, of San Jacinto, was killed and a second person hospitalized in a head-on crash between a semi-truck and a vehicle on the Ramona Expressway east of Bridge Street, authorities said.
