An early morning crash Tuesday on the 215 Freeway in Mead Valley sent a car and a tractor-trailer hauling beer onto nearby railroad tracks, halting Metrolink’s Perris Valley line’s morning commuter service, authorities said.
The wreck, which did not involve any trains, halted Metrolink’s Perris Valley line’s six morning to midday commuter trains.
A spokesman said repairs to a damaged signal system were done in time for the line’s three afternoon trains from Los Angeles’ Union Station to the two Perris stations to make their runs.
The crash just before 6 a.m. was on the southbound 215, north of Harley Knox Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol’s log said.
One person had moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital, and no other injuries were reported, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire. There were no other injuries.
Firefighters had difficulty removing one unidentified person from the wreckage. A photo from the agency shows its personnel working on the cab of the truck.
The wreckage on the tracks affected Metrolink’s Perris Valley line service for the morning, spokesman Scott Johnson said.
The crash also damaged signal equipment on the tracks. Johnson said Tuesday afternoon that crews had also been working on repairs and would be done in time for regular run of trains from Los Angeles Union Station to Perris.
