A Riverside man was identified as the motorist who died when the car he was in crashed into a traffic-light pole in Jurupa Valley, authorities said.

Raphael Woodard, 34, was dead at the scene Saturday, July 20, when the car he was in wrapped around a pole that has two flashing lights on it, warning motorists of a signal ahead. He was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

A second person in the car was hospitalized in serious condition.

No other cars were involved in the crash, reported around 12:45 p.m. at Limonite Avenue and Avenue San Juan Bautista. Firefighters had to cut through the vehicle’s wreckage to reach Woodard. The crash was under investigation.
