The driver of a pickup truck was seriously injured Tuesday night when a car crashed into the truck in Diamond Bar, sending both vehicles down an embankment.
Deputies used a bloodhound to look for the other driver but the scent trail ended, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Mario Avola.
Avola said a Hyundai Sonata coming down Steep Canyon Road shortly after 10 p.m., ran a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck traveling on Diamond Bar Boulevard. The car and the pickup fell down opposites of the road.
He said the car rolled 100 feet down but the truck didn’t fall that far. The man driving the pickup sustained significant injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to Avola.
Deputies couldn’t find the driver of the Sonata and brought in a bloodhound to search the area, he said.
“The dog followed the scent above the ravine and it just stopped,” Avola said.
He said the car was registered to someone in Murrieta. Deputies went to the address but the registered owner doesn’t live there, Avola said.
It’s unknown if the registered owner was the one driving the car Tuesday night.
