Officials identify 2 killed in San Dimas crash on 10 Freeway

Officials identified two people on Monday who died in a five-vehicle crash along the westbound 10 Freeway in San Dimas that also sent three other people to the hospital on Sunday, June 30.

The driver and one passenger of a Buick Encore that was rear ended by a Ford F-550 truck at about 8:45 a.m. died as a result of the crash, a California Highway Patrol report said. They were Corcoran residents Esther Ireta, 66, and Ramon Reyes-Cabrera, 91, Los Angeles County Coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz said.

Two passengers in the Buick and a passenger in the F-550 were taken to Pomona Valley Medical Center, the CHP said.

The Ford F-550 was traveling at about 70 mph, and the driver — an Anaheim man, 49 — allegedly made an unsafe lane change as it approached a traffic jam, the report said. That led to a chain-reaction crash involving a total of five vehicles.

Investigators did not believe alcohol played a role in the incident. The collision was under investigation by the CHP. Authorities asked anyone with information relevant to the crash to contact officer J. Ortiz by dialing 626-338-1164.
