POMONA — A 30-year-old man was killed Sunday in a three-vehicle crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona, and one of the drivers was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the CHP accident report, 31-year-old Miguel Rubalcava of Victorville was driving his 2007 Mazda east on the 10 Freeway, east of Dudley Street, crossing all lanes at an unknown speed, about 4:23 a.m.
A 2002 Honda Civic driven by a 30-year-old man was disabled and blocking lane 1, the CHP said.
Rubalcava’s Mazda hit the driver’s side of the Honda, causing the Mazda to spin out of control and hit a 2002 Cadillac Escalade driven by 30-year- old Ricardo Gonzalez in the carpool lane.
As a result of this chain reaction crash, the man driving the Honda suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported. The man’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.
Rubalcava suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he was eventually arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Gonzalez who was driving the Escalade did not suffer any injuries, the CHP said.
The crash shut down the number lanes 1 through 4 on the eastbound 10 Freeway near Dudley Street.
A SigAlert was issued at 4:46 a.m. for about 40 minutes, the CHP said.
