Teen killed in crash on 91 Freeway identified as Corona resident

A teenage boy was killed and a man was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries after a crash on the 91 Freeway on Thursday night.

The California Highway Patrol said in a collision report that the crash happened at around 10:25 p.m. when the 18-year-old man was driving a 2009 Dodge Journey east with a 17-year-old passenger on the 91 Freeway, just west of Green River Road, when he crashed into the back wheel of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway.

The driver of a semi that had broken down and was on the right shoulder with its emergency lights on and warning triangles out reported an SUV had struck his big rig about 10:30 p.m. according to Sgt. Erick Helvie of the California Highway Patrol’s Riverside office.

Officials said the 17-year-old died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. He was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as Corona resident Juan Anaya.

The 18-year-old was transported to a local hospital with chest, knee and eye injuries, according to the CHP.
