JURUPA VALLEY — A motorist suspected in the hit-and-run death of a 30-year-old bicyclist in Jurupa Valley has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
Andrew Scott Walters, 26, was arrested Sunday and booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death. Walters posted a $75,000 bond and was released from custody a few hours later.
The suspect allegedly struck and killed Rigoberto Guzman about 11 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Limonite Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard, then sped off.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Raemie Wood said Guzman was riding northbound on Van Buren when he was hit. The victim was flung to the far east side of the roadway, where witnesses spotted him and called 911, according to Wood.
Paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced Guzman dead at the scene.
By early Sunday morning, detectives had gathered information indicating that the vehicle involved was parked in the 9000 block of 56th Street, just off of Van Buren, and they went to the residence, according to Wood, who said Walters was taken into custody without incident at the property.
Wood said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the case.
