A Pomona elementary school will be closed Friday after a motorist was killed following a 2:30 a.m. crash into a utility pole on La Verne Avenue west of Garey Avenue, police said.

The crash took place in the front of La Verne Science & Technology Charter, and authorities said the school needed to close for the investigation, Pomona police said.

“As a precautionary measure, La Verne Science & Technology Charter will be closed on Friday, April 12, 2019 due to police investigating a traffic collision in the area,” read a message on the school’s website.

The crash dislodged the pole and may have damaged power lines, according to a Pomona police statement.
