A man suspected of critically injuring a woman in a hit-and-run crash at the border of Upland and Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday has been arrested.

Miguel Mendoza, 36, was arrested Thursday by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of leaving the scene of a crash that left a Pomona woman seriously injured. The crash happened just before 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The woman, who the sheriff’s department said is a 28-year-old woman from Pomona, was in critical condition Friday afternoon.

Officials said the crash happened when Mendoza ran a red light at Hellman Avenue while driving east on Foothill Boulevard. The other driver was making a left turn at a green arrow to drive south on Hellman Avenue.

The sheriff’s department said Mendoza got out of his vehicle and ran from the site of the crash without checking on the woman in the other vehicle.

Mendoza was arrested on Thursday night at his residence in Hawthorne after the sheriff’s department obtained a search warrant, according to the sheriff’s department.

“Mendoza had injuries consistent with being involved in a traffic collision and was taken to a local hospital for a pre-booking medical check,” officials said. “Mendoza was booked at the West Valley Detention Center with a bail set at $50,000.”

Court records show Mendoza is scheduled to appear at the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on April 2.
