A Gardena man was being sought by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly causing a crash in Rancho Cucamonga that left a woman in critical condition and then fleeing the scene on foot, authorities said Thursday, March 28.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a report of a traffic collision at Foothill Boulevard and Hellman Avenue, Sgt. James Snow said in a release.
Deputies were told by witnesses that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Miguel Mendoza, was weaving in and out of lanes and running red lights on eastbound Foothill Boulevard, Snow said.
Mendoza approached Hellman Avenue and ran the red light, hitting the victim’s vehicle, which was making a left turn on a green arrow from westbound Foothill Boulevard to Southbound Hellman Avenue, Snow said.
Mendoza exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. The victim, a 28-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities have not found Mendoza and were asking the public’s help in locating him, Snow said.
