The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle that fatally struck a man Thursday, Jan. 17, on Highway 330 in the San Bernardino Mountains.

The collision happened about 6:40 p.m. at the 3,000-foot level, near the lower passing lane, CHP Officer Chris Carter said. Investigators still had no description of the vehicle Tuesday.

It was unclear what the victim was doing on the highway. A nearby rock slide had stopped traffic for about 45 minutes, but there was no indication that the person had abandoned his vehicle. Motorists who said they passed through the area five minutes before the collision told the CHP that they didn’t see any pedestrians, Carter said.

The victim’s identity has not been publicly announced.

Carter asked that anyone with information on the collision call the Running Springs CHP office at 909-867-2791.
