The 80-year-old Temecula man who died in a crash on the 15 Freeway in Murrieta on Dec. 19 was identified Saturday, Dec. 22, as Ernest Hardaway Sr.
Hardaway died a few minutes after the 2 p.m. collision, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said. Two other people were injured.
Hardaway was driving his 1999 Lincoln Town Car about 65 mph in the southbound lanes, south of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, when a 2003 Dodge Ram van abruptly slowed as traffic came to a stop, California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig said. Hardaway braked but lost control and spun out. The driver’s side of the Lincoln hit the rear of the van, causing the Lincoln to careen into the center median.
Two unidentified Downey residents in the Ram suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized, Lassig said.
