An 18-year-old man was killed Monday in Pomona in a single-vehicle crash that caused major injuries to two teenage girls.
Daniel Eric Paez, 18, of El Monte died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 3:40 a.m. Monday on the White Avenue off-ramp from the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Paez was behind the wheel of a 2004 Ford Expedition SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed as it exited the freeway, went onto the right shoulder on a curve and hit a light pole. The Ford then struck a chain-link fence and overturned several times before coming to rest on White Avenue.
A 15-year-old El Monte girl who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected from the SUV, the CHP reported.
She and a 17-year-old El Monte girl both suffered major injuries and were hospitalized, as was another 18-year-old man who suffered moderate injuries, the CHP reported.
Emergency personnel pronounced Paez dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
