Officials said Saturday that there were no injuries from the Friday evening crash that involved a Union Pacific train and two vehicles in Ontario.
At about 5:30 p.m., a woman driving a black SUV with one male passenger tried to make a turn onto State Street near the Campus Avenue railroad crossing, said Raquel Espinoza, a spokeswoman for Union Pacific. Though it’s unclear how the driver ended up on the tracks, a Union Pacific train slammed into the black SUV, sending it across the tracks and into a second vehicle, a white car that was waiting to cross on the other side.
Espinoza said no one was injured, including individuals from both vehicles and the train’s operator.
Ontario police initially responded to the crash. Union Pacific Railroad Police are handling the investigation.
It took crews about 90 minutes to clear the wreck, delaying several Metrolink trains that were on their way to the Downtown Riverside station. The trains stopped at the Downtown Pomona station, where drivers were ferried to Riverside on buses provided by the Riverside Transit Authority.
A third Metrolink train remained idle at the Industry station. Following the delay, the train resumed its course to Riverside at about 8:15 p.m.
Passengers of those trains were eligible for a reimbursement of up to $50.
